Prof. Jakub Sedzinski
Group Leader | Professor of Mechanobiology in Medicine
Understanding how cellular and tissue mechanics regulate epithelial development, regeneration, and disease.
Jakub is an interdisciplinary researcher integrating cell and developmental biology, biophysics, and computational biology to understand how cells acquire their identities, organize into functional tissues, and respond to mechanical forces.
He is passionate about working with researchers from diverse scientific backgrounds, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations that bridge fundamental cell biology with medicine. His research aims to translate mechanistic insights into applications in stem cell medicine, tissue engineering, and respiratory disease modelling.
Since September 2026, Jakub has been Professor of Mechanobiology in Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen–Nürnberg (FAU), based at the Max Planck Center for Physics and Medicine (MPZPM). Previously, he led a research group at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW) at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
